how much does a 1500 watt amp cost?

Question 1
how much does a 1500 watt amp cost?...

Answers
1)   Depends on each brand of amp. they can range. Quality, and RMS, and such will play....into the cost.

Here's a list of 1500 watt mono amps:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/search_new.php?keyword=1500.1&action=search

looks like they range from around a bit under $100 to the $900 range...

And if you look in the "niche" market of car audio enthusiasts, don't be shocked to see 1500 watt amps going for more than $1500.

Here you can find sundown, decent amp maker:

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/store/categories/Amplifiers/

$500 for the 1500 watt.

PS: Do be careful where you buy from. Buying from unauthorized dealers/resellers, may void warranties from the manufacturer. So this being said buying from places like Ebay (no offense to those suggesting it)....but you may get no warranty or no support from anyone if you do not buy from an authorized dealer. - MrWakeup

2)   A REAL 1500w amp?

The cheapest one I know of is the Audiopipe ap15001d.

You can find them on ebay for $165.

The MBquart dsc1500.1d is a good one for $210-230

The hifonics bxi1610d is about $225

These would all be on the cheap side.

On the higher price/quality side they'll range from 300-500 or more.

The Kicker zx1500.1 for example is about $430 on ebay. The 2010 model is $550. - N2Audio

3)   A broad question. What subs are you running, and how much are you willing to spend? Depending on what you have, you may not need 1500 watts. Also, you may find yourself with an amp that advertises 1500 but may have considerably less true watts. If you don't want to feel ripped off, do your research and pay attention to consumer reviews. You could spend $300 to $3000. - Jason R

4)   go by the rms watts thats the true watts and if ur looking for a true 1500 watt amp it will be well over 200 i got a 4000 watt amp for 100 bucks but its really like 500 watt - Travis

Question 3
How can i replace the tape deck in my '87 blazer with a newer CD player?...  Hey i am new to electrical things and i was just wondering if and how i can replace the old tape deck with a newish pioneer cd player. Please any links or instructions will help

Answers
1)   This link explains what each wire behind the dash does. With the stereo would highly recommend a wiring harness instead of cutting the factory one away. If you buy the stereo from Crutchfield.com they will usually come with vehicle specific instructions.

2)   easy ! you will have to get your cassette deck out then you will need a face plate for your cd player, a set of plug-ins so you can plug into your factory harness. radio shack can set you up with those. all you do is wire the plug-ins to the wires coming out of the cd player, put the face plate on and plug the plug-ins into your factory harness, hook up the antenna, install the cd player in your dash and put the dash back together. sounds like a lot to do but really it is,nt. - bandit_60

Question 4
500 watt amp what size wire should I use?...  Jl amp and 2 09 type R's

Answers
1)   8 awg minimum for amp pwr and ground. Most people will suggest just running 4 awg since it's not that much more expensive, and it would allow for an amplifier addition or upgrade in the future.

No less than 16 awg for the sub wire - 12 would be better. - N2Audio

2)   2awg, (minimum 4awg) for your power. some power blocks come with 80 amp fuses. This amp recommends 50 amp. ground wire is 4g. Make sure ground is no longer than 18" and you do not run it next to your power. That goes for your RCA's too. your power needs to run by itself. This keeps everything clean sound wise. - Jason R

Question 5
Would running 500w rms to a 400rms sub blow it?...  I have 2 kickers CVR rated at 400 rms a piece would running a kicker ZX 1000.1 blow the subs?

Answers
1)   Not necessarily. Depends on the voice coil configurations of your subs, and how you wire them up.

Do you know if the subs are Dual 2 ohm voice coil configurations?

The amp specs are as follows:

Amplifier Specifications

Amplifier ClassD

Number of Channels1 - Mono

RMS Power (4 ohms)500 watts x 1 channel

RMS Power (2 ohms)1000 watts x 1 channel

RMS Power (1 ohm)N/A

Bridged RMS PowerN/A

Total RMS Power Output1000 watts

Peak Power OutputN/A

Total Peak Power OutputN/A

Maximum Input Gauge Size1/0

Minimum Impedance Unbridged2 ohms

So if you run the wiring as Crutchfield shows on their wiring diagram (and assuming the subs are dual 2 ohm subs):

Then you would be running them at 2 ohm. Giving only 500 watts for both subs.

So no you would not necessarily blow the subs that way. The big thing here is setting the gains properly so as to not clip your amp or your subs.

That's what you need to do some research on first...Maybe more info is needed here on the voice coil configuration.

See my sources for some good information on wiring subs and voice coil configuration. - MrWakeup

2)   Assuming your subs are dual 2's wired for 2 total getting 500w rms each (theoretically) there is no reason to expect your subs to be damaged. A lot of enthusiasts would consider that about the ideal amount of power. If the gain is set correctly and the use of bass boost is kept to a minimum you should get long life from your subs.

If you crank the gain and blast it all the time then yes - the subs could easily be damaged. - N2Audio
