how to install a in dash radio.?

Question 1
how to install a in dash radio.?...  i bought a dual xhd7720 in dash stereo for my jeep. I also have the wiring harness if needed. How do I in stall it?

Answers
1)   Look carefully at the wires. They will be marked in very small print what each wire is for.

Match them up and butt connector them together.

2)   Prepare for the Job

Step 1Purchase a new stereo. Make sure to get one that will fit properly into the slot for your old one. Additionally, when buying a new car stereo you may be able to get a wiring harness that is specific to both your car's make and model AND the new stereo. Buy one of these if you can because it will make the wiring a snap, literally!



Step 2Collect these tools and materials: screwdrivers, wire strippers, wire cutters and electrical tape.



Step 3You will also need a guide to removing the dash panel of your car that shows how to properly remove your old radio.



Removing the Old Stereo

Step 1Disconnect the ground (negative) cable from your battery. NEVER work on the electrical system of your car with this connected.



Step 2Remove the dash panel that covers your stereo. Unscrew and slide out your old head unit. There will either be one single plug with lots of wires that connects to the back of it or a bunch of individual wires. If there are a bunch of single wires going into the back of the stereo do not detach them yet since you will want to do them one at a time to avoid confusion.



Step 3Plug the connector into your new wiring harness, if your were able to get a wiring harness for your car. This will then plug right into the back of your new stereo. If you did this you can skip the next section.



Connecting the Wiring Manually

Step 1Connect each wire yourself if your were unable to obtain a wiring harness to install your car stereo.



Step 2Connect the positive wire from each speaker to the positive connector on the back of the stereo first. Then connect the negative wire from each speaker to the negative connector on the back of the stereo. If there is only one wire coming from the speakers, the speakers are grounded at the chassis. In this case you will need to install new speaker wiring.



Step 3Connect the ground (-/black) wire of the stereo to a screw or bolt near where the radio is mounted in the dash. Make sure the wire is attached to metal, not plastic or fiberglass.



Step 4Connect the 12 constant and ignition power wires (both +/red) to the new stereo. Refer to your stereo's installation manual to make sure these go to the correct places.



Putting in the Car Stereo.

Step 1Now you should have a nice single connector that hooks to all the proper wires in your car--either from the wiring harness you purchased or the one that came with your stereo that you have now connected all the proper wires to.



Step 2Slide your new stereo into the mounting bracket that came with it. In some rare cases you may have to use the bracket from your old car stereo.



Step 3Plug the harness connector into the back of your new stereo. There should be only one lone wire left from your old stereo now. This is the antenna. Plug it into your new unit. There may also be a power antenna wire which you will need to connect.



Step 4Slide your new car stereo into the slot in the dash. Don't screw it in yet; you'll need to test it first.



Step 5Reconnect the negative cable of your car to the battery.



Step 6Turn your car on and power up your new stereo. Put some music on and listen to all your speakers to make sure everything works.



Step 7Screw your new car stereo into place and put the dash cover back on. - Justin

Question 2
How can i stop my sub from cutting out?...  I have a kicker Crv 10 inch sub dual voice coil 4 ohm, with an orion amp putting out 800 watts and 400 rms. Im using a sealed box. I have a 99 s10 with the original battery and alternator i believe. I have an old after market stereo. I noticed the lights and stereo flashing on some songs. How can i optimize this sound and stop the sub from cutting out but still have it hit hard?

1)   get a new higher output alternator or take the sleasy way out and get a capaitor(s) - Justin

2)   Your best solution is probably just a 1 Farad Capacitor. You can pick one up for anywhere between $40-$150. Wire the capacitor to your positive and negative wire that goes from the battery to your amp. There is no need for a new alternator and battery if you are just powering a 10in sub. Question 3
I have a burned subwoofer?...  I have two 12" jbl subwoofers, I bought them brand new on the store. The first problem was that the lines that connect the magnet to the cone, they got ripped. I took the to a electronic shop and replaced them on both. Then it happened again so I took them again to the electronic shop and said I had a burned voice coil. I have them with a crunch amp 1100watts. They are dual voice coil. They sound pretty neat and consider them very powerful. Why does this happen? I have them wired up correctly that's for sure please help!!!

1)   I had the same problem with my pioneer subs back in the day. The lines are just soldered and easily break under stress. The electronics guy just soldered them back into place where they just broke again. No way to fix this exept get new subs with better leads. If you want to know if your subs are blown sometimes you can just push down on the cone. If you hear a scratching sound then their hooped. - Moley

2)   I can't tell you the reason why it is happening because it could be a number of things. JBL makes a numerous RMS subs and I could not tell which you have. I personally would run more than 1100 to two 12 anything. If you are able to afford it I'd buy a second amp and hook one up to each.



As far as what you have it could be:

Not enough power to subs.

Not properly hooked up.

Subs may just suck ( I don't know about yours but my old kickers and xplodez were terrible)

You may be wiring a dual block amp as a mono or vice versa.

The voice coil going out is running it either too loud or not pushing the proper power so just play with it until you get it fixed or take it to an car audio place. Not Bestbuy or Walmart but an actual audio place. - shogunlance

1)   i don't know what you have heard about boss audio but it is pure junk. if that subwoofer was free it would still be overpriced. the autotek amplifier is decent quality but does not quite make rated power. it really does about 850 watts rms. - dragon breath
